No common servos used on a synchronized shift rely on spring-only powered release. For this type of servo, release timing is not critical because the vehicle is not moving.įor servos used on a synchronized shift where the band releases while another element (usually a clutch) applies, release-to-apply timing is far more critical. For these applications the return spring powers the release of the servo piston. Typical Reverse servos apply and release at idle with the vehicle stopped.

For the most part it is business as usual.except for a few performance applications where a deeper understanding of servo operation can make all the difference when trying to make a transmission stand up to higher power. This servo works in all makes of this transmission.We see fewer servos in later-model transmissions, but we still deal with them when rebuilding older units. The kit comes with all of the necessary seals for installation including the outer cover o-ring. This servo is easy to install and can be done with the transmission in the vehicle. This servo will give your transmission 50% more apply pressure, just what you need to keep from burning your transmission up under heavy load situations. Also, since the servo isn't traveling as far before it applies the band, the 1-2 and even the 3-4 shift will be much quicker. Right away you'll notice faster and firmer 1-2 shifts and even slightly better 2-3. This servo is a must for any performance, towing, RV, or off-road transmission, but would be a nice upgrade for any 700-R4 or 4L60E.

This is way too much travel, it should be closer to 1/16'. If you push in on your servo cover, you'll notice that it moves in around 1/8'-1/4'.
